5th Grade Field Trip

Miss McMullen took her 5th grade Science and Social Studies students on a Field trip to Behr Iron & Metal Recycling Facility for their "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" Unit. 



Raising Student Achievement

Mrs. Futrell and Mr. McCoy had the honor of representing Blackhawk Elementary in St. Charles at the "Raising Student Achievement Conference" presented by the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools.  

Blackhawk Elementary was honored and recognized as a feature school because of their nine spot light awards and raising student achievement. Congratulations Blackhawk Elementary! 




Congratulations to Blackhawk Elementary School for earning the 2013 Illinois Spotlight School Award!  This marks the 9th year in a row for this honor!

This is an Academic Achievement Award for Exemplary Performance in Closing the 
Achievement Gap, Meeting High Standards, and Opening a World of Opportunities

The criteria for selecting Spotlight Schools are as follows :

At least half the students enrolled are classified as low-income students in 2013

  • Schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress for the last two years, 2012 and 2013, as required by No Child Left Behind. In 2012 at least 88% of students met or exceeded standards. In 2013, at least 72% of students met or exceeded standards.
  • At least 50 percent of students met or exceeded those same standards in the two preceding years, 2011 and 2012.

  • At least 50 percent of students met or exceeded those same standards in the two preceding years, 2010 and 2011.

  • Made Adequate Yearly Progress in the two previous years as required by No Child Left Behind, which in 2009 meant the following:
    • At least 70% meeting and exceeding standards in both reading and mathematics
    • 95% participation rate in state assessments for all students and each subgroup
    • Attendance rate of at least 90% for elementary and middle schools and graduation rate of at least 78% for high schools

    • Attendance rate of at least 90% for elementary and middle schools and graduation rate of at least 76% for high schools
