Mr. McCoy

Welcome to Blackhawk Elementary

It is a tremendous honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Students, parents, faculty and staff are in for a wonderful and exciting experience as we work together to create a school that provides an outstanding education in a safe and secure environment.  I am committed to the goal that our school will be an educational institution where students are focused on academic achievement, have the necessary support to be successful, and the encouragement to take an active role in their future.  It is the aspiration of all staff members in this building to make a difference in the lives of the children and the community that we serve.  For any school to become truly great, it is imperative for there to be a great deal of parental involvement.  Our children will succeed when we work together as partners.  At anytime if you have questions or issues of concern, I encourage you to contact me directly at (815) 389-4001. It is very important to me that the lines of communication between all members of our learning community be open and available.

Over the past two years we have committed to providing all students additional opportunities through technology, athletics, clubs, and honor classes. In 2013 our school district launched a 1:1 initiative so that each student is given access to Chromebooks at anytime throughout the school day. This provides new and exciting ways to deliver hands on instruction in every classroom. We have also added volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball in grades five through eight. This will better prepare our students futures through healthy lifestyles while developing a foundation in each sport. We have also added a quizbowl team, soccer club, cooking club and expanded student council. I am also pleased to announce the creation of two new classes this year: Honors Science in 8th grade focusing on physics and chemistry as well as Advanced Physical Education that focuses on strength development, conditioning, and skill development.

Once again welcome to our school and thank you for your time,

Michael McCoy
