Dear Parent and Guardians,

Let me start out by thanking all of our parents and teachers that are working closely with each other to ensure that students maintain academic engagement through this difficult time and I hope we are all back together in much better circumstances at the beginning of next school year. Our students are not successful without the support, patience and hard work from parents and teachers especially under these circumstances. As we move forward, I would like to address a few topics including locker clean out, grading system, our World’s finest Chocolate fundraiser, choosing classes for next year and 8th grade promotion.

Today your child received an email in their school gmail, it is a spreadsheet to sign up for a time to clean out lockers and pick up personal belongings. We are adhering to social distancing guidelines so hopefully the appointment will eliminate lines to get into the building. To sign up for a time enter your child’s name on the Google spreadsheet and then stop by to pick everything up at that time. If you are unable to access the document, you can also call the office schedule a time with Mrs. Munoz. The school will be open from 8:00-11:00 to pick up materials.

I have had a few questions with the grading system we are using for the fourth quarter that I would like to clarify. This quarter all students will be scored on a grading scale of Passing or Incomplete in alignment with guidance from the state of Illinois. If you currently log into your child's grades you will see a traditional grading scale using A-F. At the end of the quarter, all passing grades will be given a final grade of passing. Students that are failing to complete assignments will receive a grade of incomplete. Student’s that were passing classes before we went to remote learning will move on to the next grade level.

Before we left school, we had started our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser and many families had turned in the money before we were dismissed and others had not. Nobody wants students selling candy at this time so, if you did not sell all of your candy bars please bring the unsold bars in along with the money that was collected. If you did collect all the money please bring the money in as soon as possible. The office will be open from 8:00 - 11:00 each day or bring it in when you clean out your locker.

The class selection process for students entering grades 7 and 8 will begin in about two weeks. At that time, I will be sending out a Google document that includes course descriptions and a form for choosing elective classes for students going into 7th and 8th grade. This document will be sent to your child’s school email account. Please review it and return it when you are able.

Finally, we are working on an alternative for our 8th grade promotion ceremony. Students will be able to get their diplomas and academic awards at that time in a drive through model with their teachers cheering them on. More information on this will be sent out soon.

Please stay safe and let me know if there is anything that I can do to make this remote learning experience a positive one and I look forward to getting back to classes and all of the activities that are included in school once we are able too.
